Brokeback Military
What’s this? All of a sudden the Pentagon is considering the repeal of their vaunted “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy regarding gays in the military. Quick! Tell the Christian Crazies! Sodom is about to engulf our soldiers and Marines. (The Navy has been Military Gay Central for decades. Yawn . . .crickets . . .)
U.S. troops are way ahead of their leaders on this one. A poll taken four years ago among members of the armed services found that a majority of junior enlisted servicemen believe gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the military. In 1992 that number was 16%. Good for the military. That’s called progress.
Ah, but not so fast. Is this change of heart the result of some consciousness-raising phenomenon that has swept the upper ranks of command? Was a decision made that denying gays the right to, um, “serve their country” was simply a wrong decision, similar to the denial of military service to African-Americans decades ago? Did someone at the top of the military food chain come to the conclusion that denying gay folk the right to, um, “serve their country” was denying the commanders more fingers on more triggers? More eyes on the computer screens that control more killer drone aircraft? More opportunities to wreak death, destruction, terror, and flaming hell on the enemies of the U.S.?
There ya’ go. Now ya’ got it.
Civil rights for gays? Please. The military is not in the business of bestowing rights, civil or otherwise, on individuals, groups, or societies. The business of the military is not nation-building. The business of the military is not safety, stability, or diplomacy. The business of the military is to destroy things and kill people. Lots of things and lots of people. This process is called “War” and it determines who will serve and who will eat.
Gay folk are needed now because the Bush Crime Family has nearly accomplished the impossible, something the Soviet Union, Ronald Reagan, the entire scope of World Wars I and II, Vietnam, Korea and all the various and sundry “brush fire” wars the U.S. has been involved in for over a century, were unable to do. Until Bush. The Bush Crime Family has nearly destroyed the U.S. Military. So much so, in fact, that now the top commanders are realizing a warm body is a warm body. Gay? Straight? Get real. We need trigger-pullers, lots and lots of them in order to operate within the drooling insanity of the Bush Crime Family’s foreign policy – which is: Kill them all! All of them! Let God sort them out!
So, let’s go, boys. Uncle Sam wants you!
