Global fears about the financial crisis deepened this morning as stock markets around the world fell sharply and government officials scrambled to contain the damage. In the U.S. stock futures were trading sharply lower – a sign that investors are bracing for a rough time at the opening bell.

More than 2,000 voter registration forms filed in Northern Indiana’s Lake Country by the association of community organizations for reform now (acorn) have turned out to be bogus, election officials said yesterday. The group already faces allegations of filing fraudulent voter registrations in Nevada and faces investigations in other states.

Barack Obama yesterday slammed John McCain’s new mortgage plan as “the latest in a series of shifting positions” and evidence of “erratic and uncertain leadership.”

Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms. Half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC. The campaign is also in negotiations with the Fox network.
