President-Elect Obama will announce his National Security Team – including Sen. Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State -around 7:40am today. Obama is also expected to keep Defense Secretary Robert Gates in his current post and plans to name retired Marine Gen. Jim Jones as his National Security Advisor. AZ Governor Janet Napolitano is expected to head the Department of Homeland Security.
President-Elect Obama strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India over the holiday weekend and said that the coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrated the grave and urgent threat of terrorism.
The only gunman captured by police after a string of attacks in Mumbai told authorities he belonged to a Pakistani militant group. Militants hit 10 sites across India’s financial capital and left at least 174 people dead, including 6 Americans.
President Bush, in an interview with his sister over the weekend, said that he wanted to be remembered as a liberator of the Iraqi people. He also said that his “No Child Left Behind” policy and his HIV/Aids work in Africa were also significant achievements.
Diverted by stormy weather in Florida, the space shuttle Endeavor and its seven astronauts made a picture perfect landing in California yesterday.
