Barack Obama yesterday rejected criticism of his just-completed eight-day tour through the Middle East and Europe, saying the trip could ultimately make him a more effective president.

With just 100 days until the election, john McCain and barrack Obama are accusing each other of shifting their positions when it comes to Iraq. Obama accused McCain of altering his stance after McCain said 16 months would be a “pretty good timetable” for troop withdrawal.

John McCain said yesterday that he supports a proposed ballot initiative in his home state of Arizona that would prohibit affirmative action policies from state and local governments. 10 years ago, he called a similar effort “divisive.”

Barack Obama, back home in Chicago after a tour of Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Europe, saw a doctor at the University of Chicago Medical Center last night to deal with a sore hip.

The House failed late last week to pass legislation intended to cool off gas prices by requiring the government to sell 70 million barrels of oil from the strategic petroleum reserve.
