Condi Rice landed in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi today with documents that she said should firm up a cease-fire between Russia and Georgia even as the deal appeared to be faltering. Russian troops remain in control of two key Georgian cities despite pledges of withdrawal.

Poland and the U.S. have signed a preliminary deal to place part of a U.S. ballistic missile defense system in Poland, a plan that has drawn sharp objections from Russia.

Obama’s campaign has agreed to put former rival Hillary Clinton’s name in nomination at the Dems’ convention this month. The move is seen as a bid to heal the wounds of the bitter primary season.

John Edwards’ political action committee paid his mistress $14,000 after she stopped working for it to obtain 100 hours of unused videotape she had shot for his unsuccessful presidential campaign, even though she had already been paid $100,000 for the programs.
