Bill Clinton declared Barack Obama “ready to be President of the United States” at the Dem convention yesterday, after months of attacks from Hillary Clinton supporters on Obama’s lack of experience. Clinton noted that the GOP used the same excuse on him when he ran in 1992.

Joe Biden hammered McCain as he accepted the Dem nomination for Vice President yesterday. Biden rattled off a list of McCain’s positions on issues ranging from taxes to alternative energy, saying, “that’s not change; that’s more of the same.”

Barack Obama took the stage at the Dem convention last night, marking his first appearance at the event. He asked the crowd what they thought of the convention so far, and also praised his running mate Joe Biden as well as Hillary and Bill Clinton.

Hillary Clinton told her delegates yesterday afternoon that they had been “released.” She then asked all of the delegates during the roll call to make their verdict unanimous “in the spirit of unity, with the goal of victory.” And they did, with a roar.

Tropical storm Gustav’s impending arrival in the Gulf of Mexico, potentially as a major hurricane, has prompted Louisiana Gov. Jindal to declare an emergency for the state.
