This Morning On The Stephanie Miller Show

John McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, dealt with two startling disclosures yesterday. She announced that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant and plans to keep the baby. And Palin has hired a lawyer as Alaska investigates the firing of her public safety commissioner.

Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.

ABC news is reporting that officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Sarah Palin was once so independent, she was a member of their party, which, since the 1970′s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decided whether or not residents of the state can secede from the U.S.

Hurricane Gustav didn’t pack the wallop of Katrina three years earlier, officials said yesterday, but they urged almost 2 million evacuees to stay away from the gulf coast for another day. As of early this morning, Gustav was downgraded to a tropical depression as it moves even further inland.

The GOP Convention scaled back its program after hurricane Gustav forced them to shift focus to providing relief for areas affected by the storm. Instead of hard-hitting attacks from political heavyweights, yesterday’s program included a call to action from Laura Bush and Cindy Mccain.
