The Senate plans to vote on the $700 billion bank bailout plan this evening, two days after the house failed to pass it. It adds new provisions, including raising the F.D.I.C. insurance cap to $250,000 from $100,000, and will be attached to an existing revenue bill that the house also rejected Monday.

Stocks rallied yesterday with the Dow jumping 485 points on bets that Congress will pass a version of the government’s $700 billion bailout package, following Monday’s crushing defeat.

Barack Obama leads John McCain in the new ABC News/Washington Post poll 50% to 46% and fundamental advantages for Obama remain. McCain’s laboring under the Bush legacy. With the current economic situation, a record 70% of Americans disapprove of Bush’s job performance. A career-low 26% approve.
