Today is veterans’ Day.

Only 16% of those questioned in a new CNN poll released yesterday say that things are going well in America today. That’s an all-time low. 83% say things are going badly, which is an all-time high. President Bush also has the highest disapproval ratings in the history of the poll – 76%.

President Bush had a “relaxed” and “friendly” meeting with President-Elect Barack Obama after he and the first lady welcomed their successors to the White House yesterday. The two discussed national and international issues before Bush gave Obama a tour of the White House’s living quarters.

President-Elect Obama’s transition team has begun examining what to do with suspected terrorists at the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, which Obama has pledged to close.

Sarah Palin, amid speculation she’ll run for president in four years, blamed Bush administration policies for the defeat last week of the GOP ticket and prayed she wouldn’t miss “an open door” for her next political opportunity in a Fox News interview yesterday.

The incoming Obama administration plans to explore a more regional strategy to the war in Afghanistan – including possible talks with Iran – and looks favorably on dialogue between the Afghan government and “reconcilable” elements of the Taliban. Obama also intends to renew the U.S. commitment to the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
