Two weeks after a botched attempt on Capitol Hill, leaders of General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler are appealing to the Senate Banking Committee today with three separate survival plans that include massive restructuring, ditching corporate jets, and vows by CEO’s to work for $1 a year.

A new CNN poll suggests Americans think President-Elect Barack Obama’s getting it right when it comes to his cabinet picks, especially Hillary Clinton and Robert Gates. 75% of those questioned approve of Obama’s cabinet choices, with 22% disapproving. 71% approve of Hillary for Secretary of State, and 85% approve of keeping gates as Defense Secretary.

Eric Holder, Obama’s nominee for Attorney General, met yesterday with 12 retired Generals and Admirals to discuss changing the government’s interrogation and detention policies. All 12 retirees have been critical of Bush’s endorsement of practices such as waterboarding.

Rapper Lil Wayne received the most Grammy nominations (8) yesterday while rockers Coldplay grabbed 7 for their album “Viva La Vida.”
