President-elect Barack Obama yesterday said Congress must take “dramatic action” on his economic aid package as soon as possible, warning that a failure to do so would have devastating long-term consequences for the nation.

President-elect Obama will officially announce today that he is naming Leon Panetta as CIA director and Dennis Blair as director of national intelligence. John Brennan will be named as White House homeland security adviser and deputy national security adviser for counterterrorism.

An Illinois legislative committee yesterday unanimously recommended impeaching embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich amid corruption allegations. The issue will now be taken up by the full Illinois state House of Representatives.

Roland Burris yesterday denied any quid pro quo with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich for his appointment to the U.S. Senate during testimony before a panel weighing whether to impeach Blagojevich.

In an upcoming DVD by former far-right talk show host John Ziegler, Sarah Palin calls the media reporting on her family “very scary” and says there may be “a class issue” that explains the more sympathetic treatment of Caroline Kennedy. Palin also took swipes at Katie Couric and McCain’s campaign staff.
