David Sanger, Chief Washington Correspondent for the New York Times, calls in at 8:05am to talk about his new book, “The Inheritance: The World Obama Confronts and the Challenges to American Power.”

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) calls in at 8:30am to talk about the inauguration and her plans to help homeowners who have been foreclosed upon.

President-elect Barack Obama tried to persuade Senate Dems to get behind his plan for the second half of the $700 billion bailout, warning he would veto a threatened disapproval resolution. Obama met with Senate Dems on Capitol Hill yesterday to make his case for how he wants to spend the funds.

Members of the Senate Finance Committee met yesterday with treasury secretary nominee Tim Geithner over concerns involving his personal taxes and the immigration status of a former housekeeper. Geithner failed to pay self-employment taxes while he worked with the International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2004.

Hillary Clinton told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee yesterday that she aims to “renew America’s leadership” in a world that has undergone an “extraordinary transformation” since the end of the Cold War and is now facing “great peril.” She completed her testimony yesterday and the committee is expected to vote on her nomination tomorrow.
