Pledging to take “the air out of golden parachutes,” President Obama announced yesterday that executives of companies receiving federal bailout money will have their pay capped at $500,000 under a revised financial compensation plan.

President Obama claimed the second major legislative victory of his young administration yesterday, signing a bill to provide federally funded health care to an estimated 4 million children. Obama said the bill was a down payment on his “commitment to cover every single American.”

The Senate voted last night to give a tax break of up to $15,000 to homebuyers in hopes of revitalizing the housing industry, a victory for Republicans eager to leave their mark on a mammoth economic stimulus bill at the heart of President Obama’s recovery plan.
