Investigative journalist Greg Palast calls in at 8:30am to talk about the Obama administration’s release of Bush’s torture memos, and what that means for both administrations.

President Obama returned to D.C. last night with his eye back on his domestic agenda and a plan to save government money. Today Obama will gather his full Cabinet together and challenge it to cut a total of $100 million in the next 90 days.

President Obama said yesterday the 34-nation Summit of the Americas was a “very productive” meeting that proved hemispheric progress is possible if countries set aside “stale debates and old ideologies.” Obama cited a potential thaw in relations between the U.S. and longtime adversaries Cuba and Venezuela, but said the ultimate test “is not simply words, but deeds.”

Former Bush CIA head Michael Hayden slammed President Obama yesterday for releasing four Bush-era memos, saying the new president has compromised national security. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel dismissed Hayden’s assertion by saying the memos didn’t give Al Qaida any new information.

A gunman described as “mentally challenged” hijacked a Canadian jet on the tarmac near the resort city of Montego Bay, Jamaica and was holding members of the flight crew hostage after releasing the passengers unharmed. The man boarded the plane in Jamaica and demanded to be flown to Cuba.
